The number one reason for hiring any injury attorney is, frankly, all about money. It could be money to pay for medical expenses, to pay for lost wages, or just to compensate for the indescribable losses you suffer. Quite naturally, the first thing most people want to know then is how much do we cost? Here’s how it works:
- You pay us nothing upfront;
- We take a percentage of the recovery as attorney’s fees (one-third to forty percent depending on the circumstances);
- We do not require a retainer and we will never send you any monthly bills;
- We will also pay all expenses throughout the entire case and they will be reimbursed out of the settlement;
Thus, we are always mindful of what your net result is. Quite frankly we plan to be around for a lot of years and we plan on generating future clients through the referrals of past and current clients. And no one is going to refer us if we couldn’t put any money in their pocket at the end of the case.
The next question that is going through your mind is wondering if you would put more money in your pocket just settling out with the insurance company directly instead of hiring a lawyer. I think you probably will, but only under one circumstance. That is if you were hardly injured in the wreck. If it was just minor injuries and there were very little medical bills, go ahead and submit it all to the insurance company and have them reimburse your for those bills. But if you were pretty badly hurt, it is my opinion that you are still going to come out way ahead if you hire a truck accident specialist.
By way of example, let me tell you about a case that we are currently handling. In this case, our firm represents a man who was hit from behind by a charter bus. I lump charter busses into the same category as semi-truck accidents because the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations apply to them both in the same manner. In that case, the insurance company contacted him directly after the accident and told him not to hire a lawyer and they would take care of him. He believed them. They made up his lost wages for a while. He thought all would be well. What he did not know was that the reason they were doing this was to prevent him from getting a lawyer who would immediately start investigation and preserve evidence. (Remember the first month after the accident is always the most crucial in obtaining evidence.) Further, he also did not know that they had hired spies to secretly videotape him. After a couple months passed, they dropped the bomb. Out of the blue, the adjuster, who had been so nice and sweet before, told him she thought he was a faker and exaggerator and they were no longer going to pay his bills. But, she did tell him they would pay him about $100,000.00 in full settlement of the case. But instead of taking it, he retained our firm. As soon as we entered our appearance, the offer to settle went up to half a million. During mediation, the offer went up to just under a million. Still, we walked out and will settle and we are probably not far away from settling this case well into the seven figures.
I tell that story to illustrate this point. The insurance companies are part of a multi-billion dollar industry. They do not make all that money by gladly giving it away. In fact, they spend a lot of time, effort and money training their adjusters into persuading you that their settlement offer is more than fair. Nine out of ten times, their settlement offer is nowhere near fair.
Our Fee Guarantee
So here is our promise. If I think I am not going to be able to put more money in your pocket, than you could on your own, you have my word that I’m going to tell you that. Honestly, it’s better for us to let you know when you’re better off handling your claim on your own. In that situation you are going to be happier and tell everyone else you know that we did you right. That’s going to come back to our firm ten times over down the road. Unfortunately, that’s a philosophy that most business people, even a lot of lawyers, do not understand in today’s climate. On the other hand, if we can significantly maximize the value of your case, we are also going to tell you that too.
