I-84 closed after truck crash closes stretch between La Grande and Pendleton

Due to dense fog and a truck accident, Interstate 84’s westbound lanes were closed Wednesday through northeastern Oregon.

Oregon Dept. The Oregon Dept. of Transportation stated that I-84 westbound was shut down to all traffic between Exit 265, La Grande, and Exit 216, just east of Pendleton.

Commercial truck traffic was also restricted to westbound I-84 at Exit 374 in Ontario. ODOT stated that this was due to a shortage of safe truck parking in Baker City or La Grande.

Passenger vehicles, as well as local traffic, were allowed to travel westbound between Ontario & Baker City.

ODOT was able get the stranded traffic around the scene of the truck crash and send it towards Pendleton.

After the wreck had been cleared, I-84 was reopened at 2:45 p.m. Mountain Time on Wednesday. The fog that was caused by ODOT’s “extremely hazardous conditions” was gone.
